Originally from northern China, Japan and Korea, rosa rugosa is now naturalized in much of North America. It has wrinkled glossy leaves, thick thorny stems 4 to 8 feet tall, and large pink floppy flowers that bloom throughout summer and develop into hips the size of cherry tomatoes. This easy care rose makes beautiful hedgerows and natural fences. It is often used in land restoration projects because it tolerates most soil conditions as long as there is good drainage. Rose hips are high in Vitamin C and can be used in tea.
