In the best of times going to school has its challenges for many children and adults. A lot of stimuli, learning issues, some kids being bullies, guns, and police at school, long stressful days. Here on Lummi Island some of the Jr High and High School kids have to catch the school bus as early as 6 am to catch the 7 am ferry to get to school on the mainland on time. Now with the Covid19 Delta Variant flaring up all over the country, all of this is even more difficult.
I find myself not wanting to be physically close to anyone outside of my family. When I’m out and about, I want to build a cocoon around myself to keep other people out. Otherwise, I don’t feel safe. At school (or work) it is not easy to keep 6 feet distance from others. Often times there is not enough space in the halls or rooms to do that.

I’m happy that the Mask Mandate is back in place. We’ll see how many schools actually enforce that. Here are links for the school guidelines set out by the Center for Disease Control and the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction. These will help you know what your child’s school should be doing to protect the children and staff from Covid19.
