There are a lot of flower essence companies now, a lot more than when I started making flower essences 20 years ago. So what makes Tree Frog Farm Essences unique?
Direct Download:
Like most, I started making essences using the ‘pick method’, by cutting the flowers and floating them on pure water in the sun for about 5 hours. I’d make a connection with the plant spirit and ask it to download its flower essence quality into the water.
I soon discovered the direct download method, and I was immediately enthralled! I set the mother bottles on the ground so they are touching the flowers on the plant. The process of making an essence by direct download is like tuning to a radio station. Turning the dial directs you to a particular frequency. The more clearly your radio is aligned with that frequency, the clearer the transmission. I provide the intention to attune, “dial-up” the frequency by inviting in the specific plant spirit and act as the antenna to receive that transmission. Instead of a song, what is received is more like a tone, a single note. This allows me to make flower essences of fragile wildflowers such as Epipactis Orchid, Spotted Coral Root Orchis, While Fawn Lily, and to make tree essences of 100 feet or more tall trees like Western Red Cedar, Grand Fir, and Douglas Fir. I know of only one other flower essences producer to date, who uses this method as well.
Red Shiso Base:
We offer two base options for our flower essences, red shiso, and brandy. Our red shiso/vinegar base, which is an alcohol-free alternative, is literally grown and made here from the ground up! We make our shiso base in small batches using the hand-selected, high-quality dried leaves from the shiso plants we grow each year. For more details click here: What is Red Shiso? Since I have a sensitivity to alcohol, before I started making my own essences, I used to get Molly Sheehan of Green Hope Farm’s essences in a shiso/vinegar base. I asked Molly one day after I had begun making my own how she made her alternative base. She graciously gave me her recipe, and I in turn ”paid it forward”, giving the recipe to another budding flower essence maker! We are a part of a handful of essence makers who offer the red shiso base.
Use of Crystals and Gemstones:
Gem Essences are becoming more available with an increase in producers making them. I do not make Gem Essences. Instead, my Guidance has been to place crystals and gemstones on the ground surrounding the bottles and plant as the essence is being made. The crystals and gemstones help to define the energetic boundary of the essence-making process, and each flower or tree essence is enhanced by the quality of the crystals and gemstones used. We also energetically charge each of our blends in a crystal grid for 1 hour. As far as I know, no other flower essence producer does this.
