I’m just beginning to realize how much armor I’ve had over my heart and upper body from an early age. It can be quite challenging to be open-hearted in the modern world. There are so many impressions – like driving on a busy freeway, being at a shopping mall or simply walking on a downtown street. I sometimes have difficulty sorting what to take in. This sense of sensory overload causes me to contract.
I also protect my heart from the many feelings that often arise during interactions with others, or when I hear news like the children of immigrants being ripped away from their parents. How do I sort and make sense of these feelings and emotions? Confusion and contraction show up in my structure – shoulders up and tight, an energetic hardness across my chest and upper back. Otherwise I feel too vulnerable.
I’ve made much progress in my 35 years of deep healing work. Many layers of armor have peeled off. Still some remain. Continuing to “peel the onion.” The good news is…the more I release the armor while still feeling protected, the more I can enjoy life! How about you?
