September 2010: Reawakening the Sacred Feminine

A close friend of mine is on her way to Ireland. While there she will be visiting some of the Mary Magdalene Laundries, also known as Magdalene Asylums. The institutions were named for St. Mary Magdalene, who according to Catholic (and Protestant) tradition, was a prostitute who repented her sins and became one of Jesus; closest disciples. The Magdalene Laundries were convents throughout Ireland that contained huge washing workhouses run by nuns. They became prisons to which Irish Catholic girls and young women “in moral danger” could be sent by their parish priest – the term covered anyone from single mothers (who had often become pregnant as a result of rape or incest) to girls who were simply high-spirited or “bold.” The girls lost their dignity, identity and humanity. They were locked up, had no outside contacts and were not paid for their 10 hours per day labor. Many never saw their families or the outside world again but lived their entire lives behind walls until they were buried in unmarked communal graves. There are many websites and even a movie on this topic.

Reawakening the Sacred Feminine

Others view Mary Magdalene in a very different light. She was said to have been a deeply spiritual woman and gifted healer who was Jesus’ closest disciple and perhaps even his wife. She wrote the Gnostic Gospel of Mary Magdalene. (One source states that the “fallen woman” was Mary of Bethany.) As this story goes, after the crucifixion, Mary Magdalene was the rightful heir of Jesus’ teachings, but was persecuted and driven off by Peter and Paul who wanted to take over Jesus’ movement/church. She fled to Gaul – now France and parts of Belgium, western Germany, and northern Italy – where she had protection from family. There she lived and continued the Teachings in her rightful place as the embodiment of the Feminine Christ Consciousness. (Jesus embodied the Masculine Christ Consciousness.) Even now there is a deep reverence in parts of France for Mary Magdalene.

Whichever story you believe – sinner turned disciple or Feminine Christ Consciousness – it is easy to see how the male paradigm of power over, disregard for the nurturing feminine and for Mother Earth has deeply affected our world today. From a multitude of traditions and walks of life, many women and men are acknowledging this and working for a more balanced way of living and treating the Earth. One example is the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. But we don’t have to be part of an organization or movement. We can each heal the wounds in our own psyche by connecting to the Sacred Feminine within. And we can each do our part to help our Mother Earth, like my friend who is taking our new Fireweed Essence with her to clear the wounds and heal the land at the sites of the Mary Magdalene Laundries in Ireland.

Fireweed Flower Essence

FireweedFireweed plant is a natural Earth healer throughout Alaska, Canada, Northern United States. It colonizes disturbed sites that have been burnt, clear-cut or where topsoil has been washed off, creating a swath of bright colors when in flower. Each flower has four purplish pink petals and a four-lobed white stigma that looks like a white cross in the center of the pink flower. The leaf character is distinctive. Unlike most leaves where the veins end at the edge of the leaves, the veins of fireweed leaves join together in loops before reaching the outer edge of the leaves.

Fireweed Flower Essence is a powerful transformer and healer! I work with nature intelligences and with people of other dimensions while making essences. In the past Kwan Yin has assisted. This time, the Sacred Feminine known as Mary Magdalene was with me. Fireweed Essence initiates shifting personally and collectively from a male dominant, power-over paradigm to a more feminine loving, joyful, nurturing, in-harmony-with-nature paradigm. Fireweed Essence realigns you to your own Sacred Feminine and repairs any old traumas caused by the male dominant culture encouraged by the Church. It releases fear and anger around this from our collective DNA and encourages you to release any unresolved energy you hold around this. Fireweed Essence heals your heart chakra bringing forth prayers for those affected in the past, present and future. It helps you remember that each of us possess Divine power and assists you to step into your Feminine Divinity. While making the essence I was told, “Fireweed Essence is here to radically uplift the frequency of human consciousness.”

As Fireweed Flower Essence says of itself:

I AM loving joy of the Sacred Feminine in harmony with Nature
